It sounds simple, but nothing is more effective. A lot of times business owners are afraid to ask customers unless they're very sure that they're happy, but the thing is, the vast majority of customers are happy.

If you're still in business right now, you're making customers happy. The reason asking for reviews will get you more positive reviews and not negative ones is because the people who would leave you a negative review are going to relieve your review, whether or not you ask for it, and you start asking for more reviews, you're just encouraging those people who would have left a positive review.

They just didn't think to leave one. Number two, make it easy.
