There were a half a dozen other models. Most power users learned that the 4O model is not the best model for most tasks.

For example, if you're doing any kind of research, you wanted to be using the O3 model. And if you needed any kind of emotional intelligence, you needed to be using the 4.5 model.

Because of this, the average user was getting a significantly worse experience than someone who knew what they were doing. GPT5 fixes this by automatically picking the best model for the given prompt.

The average user is about to have their mind blown by how good these thinking models responses can be. And there are a ton of other supposed improvements in GPT5.
