Okay, so backup before updating. So always good practice to backup your site before you run any updates, just in case something goes wrong. Use your hosting's backups.

Or if you're not sure, you can use a plugin like Updraft plus.

Then just make sure you run the updates for WordPress, update your plugins, and update any out of date themes. Let's just make sure that you keep everything up to date using the latest version, and you wipe out any risk of vulnerabilities.
