Way too many of you are focusing on things that don't actually matter when it comes to your website SEO. And one of the worst offenders for this is technical SEO. Some of you are spending so much time on this you don't need to.
I've put together a checklist. Here's what you need to do.
First, and I really hope you're all doing this, SSL certificate. And make sure you're using the HTTPS version of your URL. You're gonna check your, make sure it's working.
Make sure it's not blocking anything that it shouldn't be.
Once that's all good, you can submit your sitemap in Google Search Console. This is one of my favourite SEO tools. It's not only for technical SEO, but once you've submitted your sitemap, then you can use it to see which pages have been indexed, and if they haven't, then why.
Going back to your site, you're gonna check for any broken links. Obviously, you need to set up redirects or remove them. And while we're talking about links, you need to check for orphan pages and make sure that you add links to them.
We don't want any pages on your site that aren't linked anywhere.
Then you're gonna check your website speed and, more importantly, your core web vital score. Once you know what's going on with your website speed, then you're gonna use WP Rocket to optimise it. Hands down my favourite speed optimisation tool.
I use this on like every site.
While you're in the back end of your site, you also need to compress your images and convert them to WebP.
Then you're gonna add schema markup. Don't spend loads of time on this. SEO plugin that will do it for you on autopilot.
Once you've done all of those things, you're gonna do one final user experience test where you run through your site on desktop and mobile and see how it performs. Providing you've done all of these steps, this should look good.
