Unless you've been paying like no attention to your website whatsoever, you've probably noticed over the last year or so that your traffic from Google has dropped.
It's not Google penalizing your site. It's not your competitors tanking SEO. It's Google.
A search engine's goal is to help the user find the information they need. Like a webpage, an answer engine's goal is to provide the user with the information they need.
When Google introduced AI overviews, they started the shift from search engine to answer. So when someone searches for basic information on how to do something, Google is just providing the answer for them.
These are the sort of searches that websites are no longer getting traffic from. Their top of funnel, which typically means they generate less conversions, if any.
And as a business owner, this is only something you need to worry about if the only pages on your website getting any traffic from Google are blog posts. Which, to be honest, I hope that's not the case because you've been missing out on a ton of leads.
Whereas if your strategy has also focused on bottom of funnel pages like landing pages, sales pages, product pages, etcetera, you are way less likely to have seen an impact on revenue since this. And that's why you're doing SEO. It's not actually about traffic, it's about revenue.
Google cannot replace your services or your products with an AI Overview. I go into this in depth in the SEO Clinic, which is my course that teaches you how to create an SEO Strategy that's actually gonna generate you. But in a nutshell, your focus should have always been on bottom of funnel content.
And if it's not, now is the time to make that shift.
