Here's how to optimise your Google My Business profile. This isn't gonna take you very long. I recommend saving this video, loading it up and following along as you go.
The first thing we gonna cover is your business profiles category. This needs to be the closest match to your top service. This is one of the best ranking signals that you can give Google about what it is you offer and what type of searches you should show up for.
Let's say you do air conditioning, but you also do things like plumbing and heating on the side. Don't say you're a heating contractor here. Say air conditioning contractor.
That's the signal you wanna send. And if you're in any doubt whatsoever, look at what your top ranking competitors are using because I bet they've already gone through that.
Next we need to optimise your address. Having your physical address in the location you're targeting is the most effective way to rank in that location. If you are a service area business, it doesn't mean you can't rank, but it is gonna be significantly harder for you.
If there is any option of you having an address in the area you're targeting, use it.
Obviously in your website URL field, put your website URL. We are not going to ignore the business description field. This is one of the most powerful things.
It's where you can put loads of your target keywords write like a couple of short paragraphs that describe what you do, the locations that you target, and then naturally weave in your keywords.
Next we're gonna move on to your services. List every single individual service that you offer. See what your competitors have got in theirs.
After your category, this is the next most important thing you're doing in terms of sending ranking signals about what you offer. Bonus points if you can get your target keywords into the service names.
And then I'm just gonna show you one little cheeky hack. You don't have to do this, but in my experience, it does help. Go into your products and add your key services as products as well.
The best way to do this is if you've got individual pages for those services on your website, because then you'll include the URL here. Like I said, this is a little bit cheeky, but if you get away with it, it's all good. And if Google take those products down, don't try and put them back up.
