If you'd like to learn how to rank in AI search, in other words, how to get your brand recommended by large language models like ChatGPT and Google's AI mode, I'd like to recommend three people I think you should be following.
I often have people ask me how to learn GEO.
They're often looking for a course or something.
But the thing is this is a brand new industry.
There is no course, at least not one I would pay for.
We're all learning this in real time.
Now having a background in SEO definitely gives you a huge advantage.
Most of the fundamental systems are still the same, but there's also a lot of new opportunities.
And the only way to discover those opportunities is through experimentation.
Those of us that are learning and keeping up with the changes in GEO right now are learning by doing.
We're running experiments, sharing our results and then comparing notes with others that are doing the same.
I've been doing this for a few years now and I'd like to share the only three people who I feel really understand GEO at a fundamental level and are sharing their insights.
First one is Ethan Smith.
He's the CEO of graphite and AI powered growth agency.
I recommend checking out his episode on Lenny's podcast.
It's one of the first things I share with anyone interested in getting Into GEO.
Ethan is a great example of someone who's truly living and breathing GEO.
He's not just sharing theories, he's really practicing it and he's an open book.
Second person I recommend is Kevin Indig.
I subscribe to the paid version of his Growth Memo newsletter.
The free version is also fantastic though.
I'm currently doing an 11 part video series covering the 11 search factors based on one episode of that newsletter.
Kevin has always been a valuable resource in the SEO community and he's one of the few CEOs that actually understands what has changed with Geo and what hasn't changed.
And the third person I recommend following is Mike King.
He's the founder of ipullrank.
Mike goes deeper on a technical level into how Google's systems work than any SEO I know.
And now he's taking that technical understanding and applying it to Google's AI mode and AI overviews, which I think is very wise.
I think by the end of this year, all we're gonna care about is how large language models rank websites.
Mike recently did a webinar with Joy Hawkins that you can find on YouTube.
I highly recommend watching the entire thing.
Joy is still a bit of a skeptic when it comes to AI and I think she has good reasons, but I'm hoping we can make a believer out of her by the end of the year.
