Topical authority on the other hand measures your knowledge and your expertise in a certain topic or bucket.
Think about it this way. If you sell coffee, you don't just write about coffee and coffee beans, you write about the history of coffee, different roasting techniques, the best cups for coffee. You want to have it that Google has no choice but to put your website on the top of all the search results because you are seen as the authority in the coffee niche.
So why does Google care so much about topical authority?
It's very simple. It comes down to trust. Google has moved to something called eat.
Eat stands for experience, expertise, authoritativeness and trustworthiness.
When you pull topical authority, you're proving to Google that you're not just writing one lucky post that is gonna rank you, proving to Google that you are the source of expertise in your niche.
