Stop asking ChatGPT why it recommended your competitor instead of you. At least once a week, someone sends me a conversation they had with ChatGPT in which ChatGPT recommended their competitor. And then they followed it up with why did you recommend this company and not my brand?
And they typically see it as this great revelation. Look, ChatGPT is revealing all of its secrets to me. It's telling me how it works and why it recommends this brand and what I need to do to get recommended.
But it's not. The process ChatGPT used to create that response is the same process it used to create every other response. It's pre trained on a bunch of information across the internet.
It's then further trained with reinforcement learning from human feedback. And then for some prompts, it'll search the internet and retrieve more information. So when you ask it why it recommended your competitor or you ask it how to rank in ChatGPT, the response you're getting back is just a summary of all the advice that already exists online about how to get recommended by ChatGPT.
Most of that advice is terrible, but none of it comes from ChatGPT actually having a working understanding of its own architecture. ChatGPT doesn't have any special insights into how it works.
