So it looks like we're already seeing phase 2 of Google replacing the traditional search results with AI results. Phase 1, if you missed it, was the release of AI Mode, which is a new tab in Google Search. Instead of showing you traditional results, it gives you an AI response similar to what you'd get from ChatGPT.

But just today, Google announced what seems to be the next step in that direction. They're calling it web Guide. Now, currently, you can only see this if you go to Search Labs and enable it.

Once you do, you can see search results that are somewhere in between traditional search results and AI mode.

You still see blue links, two websites, but they're categorized by type with a summary at the top of each category. So this is clearly an experiment that Google is running. It's the next step towards replacing traditional search results with AI mode.

And honestly, even as someone who knew this was coming, it's coming a lot faster than I expected.

So what does this mean if you own a business or have a website? It means that ranking in the top 10 of Google isn't going to be nearly as important anymore. Now, you still do need to rank in Google because AI mode is pulling from Google search results.

However, instead of doing one search and showing you the top 10 results, it's doing up to a dozen different searches and showing you hundreds of results aggregated together.

So instead of everyone competing for the top few spaces on a few highly competitive search terms, the goal is going to be showing up in as many places as possible for as many specific searches as possible.

I share lots of videos on how to do this specifically. The short version is that you want to have as much information on your website about your company and what you do. You want to distribute as much content as possible across the internet representing your brand.

And you want to track all the websites that AI Mode and ChatGPT are looking at before they provide recommendations and make sure your brand is mentioned in as many as possible.
