No one really knows what digital marketing will look like in 2027, but there are some pretty significant trends that are unlikely to stop. And so let's speculate. The biggest trend I'm seeing is that people are more and more willing to let algorithms make decisions for them.
As these algorithms get better at recommending stuff we actually like, we get lazier. This has really accelerated in the last couple of years, and I don't see any signs this is going to slow down. My prediction is that by 2027, algorithms will be driving more leads than even word of mouth.
For most small businesses, these algorithms continue to get better in pretty much every way. And if we want to guess what they're gonna look like in a few years, we should just think about what people would want them to look like, at least within the bounds of what technology allows. Today, you can go to Google and do a search and get a list of businesses, or you can go to TikTok and find a couple perspectives from influencers.
But if you had all the time in the world, you would go to hundreds of websites and collect hundreds of perspectives. And we're already seeing deep research AI do this kind of thing, but right now, it takes a long time and the results aren't great. So what would the perfect version of that look like?
It would be way faster. And we're seeing these get faster. Every single month, it would understand exactly what's important to you and only return that information.
And you would immediately get a summary of all the top opinions and ratings that you care about, whether they're from the business's website, another website, or videos and other social media posts. I think that's the future we're heading towards. A seamless experience where you get only the information you care about delivered in the way that's easiest to digest.
And this is why I think every small business owner needs to become a content creator. Start building in public, put as much of you out into the digital world as possible. I really think we're transitioning from a winner take all economy into a situation where AI gobbles up everything that's put out online.
Which means if you're making content that addresses the specific issues of your specific audience, you don't need to go viral. The algorithm will find your content and give it to the people who need it exactly when they need it, in the form they need it in. And this ends speculation time with TJ.
